Site Inspections
Arborist Site Inspections
Keep your project compliant from start to finish. Professional tree inspections and monitoring by ISA Certified Arborists accepted by all GTA municipalities.
An arborist site inspection is a periodic on-site visit required by GTA municipalities at specific construction milestones, confirming that tree protection measures are intact and work stays within permitted limits. If you have not yet applied for a permit and need the initial arborist report for your application, that is a construction report. Once your permit is issued and site work is active, this is what your permit conditions require. We visit, assess, and deliver a signed written report within 1-2 business days.
What an Arborist Site Inspection Includes

Tree Protection Compliance Review
We verify that protection fencing, root exclusion zones, and other measures are in place and meeting the conditions of your tree permit or site plan agreement.
Photographic Documentation
Detailed photographs of each tree and the overall site condition, timestamped and included in the written report for municipal submission.

Who Needs an Arborist Site Inspection?
Required at multiple stages of construction and development projects across the GTA
Contractors & Builders
Mandatory inspections at construction milestones are a common permit condition. We provide the documentation needed to satisfy city arborists and release permit holds.
Homeowners
Pre-purchase inspections, post-storm assessments, or verification that a contractor has properly protected your trees during renovation work.
Developers & Site Plan Applicants
Site inspections are required as conditions of site plan approval and subdivision agreements, verifying tree preservation commitments are being met throughout the project.
Property Managers & Municipalities
Periodic tree health assessments for parks, commercial properties, and public spaces to identify risk trees and plan scheduled maintenance.
This service is the right fit when:
- Your permit is issued and a city condition requires arborist inspections at defined construction milestones
- A city arborist has flagged potential non-compliance and you need a documented response
- You want independent confirmation that your contractor is keeping tree protection measures intact
- A storm or site incident damaged trees and you need a formal condition assessment on record
This is not what you need when:
- You are at the permit application stage and need a tree preservation and protection plan (see Construction Reports)
- You need a permit letter to remove a tree (see Tree Removal Reports)
- No construction is happening and you want a general tree health opinion with no municipal submission
What it costs
There is no fixed rate for site inspections because scope varies significantly. A single-lot residential inspection with a handful of trees is a one to two hour visit. A multi-lot development site with dozens of tagged specimens under a site plan agreement requires considerably more time, documentation, and coordination with the city. The main variables:
Number of trees and site area
More trees, larger lots, or multiple properties increase on-site time and the length of the report.
Construction stage
Pre-construction baseline visits, active-construction monitoring visits, and completion inspections each carry different documentation requirements.
Municipality requirements
Some cities specify a particular report format or require additional sign-offs, which affects preparation time.
Turnaround time
Standard delivery is 1-2 business days. Urgent same-day or next-morning delivery is available and priced accordingly.
Tell us the site address, approximate number of trees, and the construction stage you are at. We will quote the same day. Request a quote or call (647) 479-8778.
Serving Toronto & the Greater Toronto Area
We conduct arborist site inspections across the entire GTA with same-day and next-day availability.
Regional & Conservation Overlays
Properties near woodlands or conservation areas may need additional permits beyond your city's tree bylaw.

Arborist Site Inspection FAQ
Common questions about site inspections for tree permits and construction projects
What is an arborist site inspection?
An arborist site inspection is a professional assessment of trees on or adjacent to a property or construction site, conducted by an ISA Certified Arborist. The inspector evaluates tree health, structural condition, compliance with tree permits, and the adequacy of any existing tree protection measures. A written report documenting findings is provided.
When is a site inspection required?
Site inspections are typically required at key stages of a construction project: before work begins, during active construction, and upon project completion. Municipalities across the GTA commonly specify mandatory arborist inspections as conditions of tree permits, site plan approvals, and subdivision agreements. They are also requested when a property owner wants an independent assessment of tree health or protection compliance.
What does an arborist site inspection include?
Our inspections include: assessment of all trees within or adjacent to the project area; evaluation of tree health, structural condition, and risk; review of existing tree protection fencing and root protection measures; documentation of any bylaw violations or permit non-compliance; and a written inspection report with photographs. We can also provide recommendations for remedial action where required.
How long does the inspection take?
Most residential inspections take 1–2 hours on site. Larger construction or development sites may require a half-day or full-day visit depending on the number of trees and the complexity of the site. We provide the written report within 1–2 business days of the inspection.
Can you provide inspection reports during active construction?
Yes. We offer periodic monitoring visits throughout the construction process to verify that tree protection is intact, root zones are protected, and all permit conditions are being met. Municipalities frequently require documented arborist inspections at specific project milestones, such as before footings, after rough grading, and at project completion.
What happens if issues are found during inspection?
If we identify compliance issues, such as damaged protection fencing, encroachment into root zones, or unauthorized tree work, we'll document the findings, advise on the corrective action required, and can communicate with the municipality on your behalf. Early identification typically avoids Stop Work Orders and costly penalties.
Do you liaise with the municipality after the inspection?
Yes. We regularly communicate with municipal urban forestry departments across the GTA. We can submit inspection reports directly to the city, respond to city arborist queries, and provide supplementary information to support your project's permit compliance.
What municipalities do you serve?
We serve the entire Greater Toronto Area including Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Brampton, Burlington, Hamilton, Pickering, Caledon, King, Durham Region, and York Region.
