What Affects the Price
Number of Trees
Our $200 report covers up to three trees. For more trees, we quote the whole project.
Property Complexity
Properties with difficult site access, steep grades, or trees near structures require more detailed documentation, which adds to preparation time.
Municipality
Different cities have different bylaw requirements. Toronto's private tree and street tree bylaws, for instance, require documentation not needed in smaller municipalities.
Report Revisions
If the city asks for changes, we revise the report at no extra charge.
What Is Included in a Standard Arborist Report
A tree removal report has these six parts.
Species identification, diameter, height, crown spread, condition rating, and location rating for each tree.
A scaled drawing showing where each assessed tree stands on the property.
Site photographs documenting tree condition, defects, and site context.
A written recommendation explaining why removal is warranted, with reference to the applicable bylaw criteria.
Most municipalities require a replanting plan as a condition of permit approval. This specifies replacement species, size, and location.
The report must be signed by a credentialed arborist. A certification number and ISA membership should be verifiable.
Why Pricing Should Be Confirmed Upfront
A good arborist firm gives you a clear price before any work begins. The quote should specify what is covered: how many trees, whether revisions are included, and whether the site visit fee is separate or bundled. Vague pricing signals an upsell model or a firm that hasn't assessed your situation.
Ask whether the quote is the all-in cost. Ours is a fixed $200 for up to three trees, with city-requested revisions included.
Full-Service vs. Consulting-Only Pricing
Arborist firms fall into two broad categories: those that also perform tree removal, and those that consult only. Consulting-only firms do not upsell removal services, because they have nothing to sell you.
Consulting-only pricing differs in two ways. First, a consulting-only firm charges only for the report, because the report is its whole business. Second, it has no financial reason to recommend removal, so if a tree can be saved, it says so.
