Tree Bylaws in Oakville
Oakville's Private Tree Protection By-law 2017-038 applies to all private property in the town and requires a permit for the removal of any tree with a diameter of 15 cm or more at breast height, outside woodland governed by the Halton Region Tree By-law.
The permit application fee is $65 for the first tree (15-24 cm), $425 for the second tree (15 to 24 cm in 12 months) or a first tree over 24 cm, and $900 for the same trees with a development application. No fee is charged for dead, ash, or buckthorn trees. Replanting follows a stepped scale in Schedule A, from 3 trees for a 25 to 34 cm tree up to 12 for a tree over 115 cm, with a $300 refundable security deposit per replacement tree. An inspector contacts the applicant within 5 business days.
