Tree Bylaws in Brampton
Brampton's Tree Preservation By-law 317-2012 protects all private trees with a trunk diameter of 30 cm or more at breast height. The city takes tree preservation seriously, with fines reaching $100,000 for unauthorized removal and continuing penalties of up to $10,000 per day.
The permit application requires an arborist report and a flat fee of $55.73 per application, regardless of how many trees are included. Processing typically takes around 30 business days. Replanting requirements are determined on a case-by-case basis by the Commissioner, so there is no fixed ratio like some neighbouring municipalities.
Brampton also has a separate Woodlot Conservation By-law (402-2005) that applies to woodlots of 0.2 hectares or more. If your property is in or adjacent to a woodlot area, additional regulations apply beyond the standard tree bylaw. With rapid residential development pushing into formerly rural areas, tree permits in Brampton often intersect with construction and site plan approvals. We work with property owners and builders across the city to prepare reports that meet Brampton's requirements.

What Brampton Clients Say
Our construction project near Queen Street needed three mature trees removed before we could break ground. The arborist report documented everything, and the city approved all three permits in 26 days. We broke ground on schedule.
Commercial build, Bramalea
A large oak on the city boulevard was leaning into our side yard near Chinguacousy Park. They assessed the situation, coordinated with the city, and got the protection plan sorted so our renovation could proceed without damaging the tree.
Addition, Springdale
We were building a new driveway and had concerns about root damage to a protected maple near the property line off Highway 410. The arborist supervised the excavation, installed root barriers on one side, and sent the city photos the same day. Permit stayed in good standing the whole time.
